Giving Back this Holiday Season

It’s been called “the most wonderful time of the year” because it’s a time for family and friends to get together and spend quality time together. The holiday season is quickly approaching, which means there will be plenty of gifts and presents. However, it is also during these times that we should consider those who do not have the means to give gifts. We’ll look at the significance of giving back during the holiday season to remind us of the good things we have and why we should spread that good as far as we can. With that being said, here are two ways that you can give back to the community or other people this holiday season.

  1. Volunteer
  • Salvation Army – Angel Tree Program

Every year, the Salvation Army Angel Tree program assists in providing Christmas gifts for hundreds of thousands of children across the country. Once a child or senior adult has been registered and accepted as an Angel, their Christmas wish list is shared with local donors who purchase new clothing and toys for them. The gifts are given to the family to put under their Christmas tree.

It takes an army of people to deliver these gifts to Angels therefore, the Salvation Army will be needing a lot of people. You can help by volunteering to deliver these gifts on time to children and seniors who are chosen.

  •   Houston Food Bank

They say that time is the best gift you could ever give to someone because no amount of money can bring it back. Houston Food Bank’s mission is to provide food for better lives. They feed children, seniors, and other people who may experience hunger and food insecurity. You can volunteer by assisting the Houston Food Bank in sorting, processing, packing food, and delivering it to people in need. And it’s entertaining!

  1. Donate
  • Toys for TOTS

This is a program ran by the United States Marine Corps Reserve that distributes toys to children whose parents are unable to provide them with Christmas gifts. Toys for Tots wants to convey a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens by giving children toys every Christmas.

Donating toys and other related children items will be appreciated and can put a smile on the faces of the kids who are less fortunate. You can even ask your kids to pick a gift and pack it in your Texas apartment to make it more personal. Great bonding time to you and your kids as well.

  • Red Cross

Donating blood has benefits for your emotional and physical health. According to a report by the Mental Health Foundation, helping others can reduce stress, improve your emotional well-being, benefit your physical health, help get rid of negative feelings, provide a sense of belonging and reduce isolation.

Giving blood this holiday season will help a lot of people who are in need plus it has a lot of health benefits.
