Fun Memorial Day Weekend Activities

The Memorial Day weekend unofficially sparks the start of summer! BBQ cookouts, beach outings, and days off easily come to our minds when we think of things to do on this three-day-weekend. But it is very important to know why we are celebrating Memorial Day: a time to commemorate and honor the Americans who have died while serving the Military.

This 31st of May, spend the most of your day by doing one (or more) of these Memorial Day activities that focuses on commemorating our heroes who fought and continually fight for our freedom.

Whether you want to go outside with your family, or just stay inside your Texas apartment, you will find a thing or two in this list that you can do on Memorial day to observe the true essence of this holiday!

Fly the Flag

Flying a flag is a simple yet patriotic way to show your love for your country. Keep in mind you have to observe proper etiquette when you fly the American flag.

 Quiet Time Moment

The US Congress established the National Moment of Remembrance in 2000, it is a minute-long pause to honor and commemorate those who have and are serving the US armed forces.

Pray

Memorial Day is about commemorating and honoring those dearly  departed while serving the country. Spend a minute to pray for the heroes who have fallen, and are fighting for our country.

Visit the Departed Ones

Give our heroes a tribute by visiting a nearby veterans’ cemetery. Place flags, and flowers on their graves, and pray for them.

Support a Veteran-owned Business

There are many veteran-owned businesses that you can support. Whether you want to eat out with your family or shop, supporting a business that is owned by a veteran is a great idea.

Give Thanks to the Veterans

Gather your family members and organize an activity to write some thank you cards or notes to the veterans across the country.

You can also post a thoughtful message or a quote on your social media platforms to give thanks to our heroes. This will  also highlight the importance of Memorial Day.

If you know someone who has served or is serving our country, give them a phone call or a text to say thanks for their service. They will be filled with joy knowing that you are thankful for their service in our country.

Try Out Patriotic Recipes

Show that you are a proud American, and are proud of our troops by making some red, white, and blue food.  You can also bake some goodies, sell them, and donate the proceeds to a veteran focused-charity.
