Employee Appreciation Day 2023

Employee Appreciation Day is an annual holiday celebrated on the first Friday in March (in 2023, it falls on March 3). The purpose of this holiday is to show gratitude and recognition for the hard work and contributions of employees in the workplace.

Employee Appreciation Day was first observed in the United States in 1995, and it has since spread to other countries around the world. On this day, employers and managers typically express their appreciation for their employees in various ways, such as:

Sending Thank You Notes

Sending thank-you notes or emails to employees to acknowledge their hard work and dedication. Remember, sending a thank-you note or email is just one way to show appreciation. Employers should also strive to create a workplace culture that values and recognizes employees’ contributions regularly.

Giving Small Gifts or Tokens of Appreciation

  • Some examples of small gifts or tokens of appreciation are:
    • a coffee mug
    • a company-branded item
    • a gift card to a local coffee shop or restaurant
    • a personalized note of thanks

However, it’s important to remember that gifts are just one way to show appreciation. Employers should also strive to create a workplace culture that values and recognizes employees’ contributions regularly.

Each year, we host an appreciation week for our Managers, Leasing Professionals, Assistant Managers, and Maintenance employees who consistently maintain our Texas apartments to the standards of Ashford Communities. Throughout this week, we offer a different token of appreciation each day, such as pens, notebooks, chargers, gift cards, free lunches, and more.

During Employees Appreciation Week, employees are encouraged to express their gratitude for the support and guidance provided by their managers, as well as acknowledge the crucial role they play in achieving organizational goals. The week provides an opportunity for employees to feel valued and recognized for their efforts, which can help to boost morale and motivation.

Special Events or Activities

Organizing special events or activities for employees can be a fun and effective way to show appreciation and boost morale in the workplace. Some examples of special events or activities could include a company picnic or barbecue, a happy hour or mixer, a team-building exercise, or a volunteer day for a local charity.

At Ashford Communities, we make sure that we host a monthly Happy Hour event where all employees come together for a special evening filled with fun games, delicious beverages, good food, and the opportunity to socialize with one another throughout the day. Additionally, we hold an end-of-year party to celebrate and reflect on the year’s accomplishments before it comes to a close.

Additional Time off or flexible schedules

Offering additional time off or flexible schedules as a reward for employees’ hard work can be a valuable way to show appreciation and help employees achieve a better work-life balance. Some examples of additional time off or flexible schedules could include a designated “wellness day,” allowing employees to leave early one day a week, or offering additional vacation time as a reward for meeting certain performance metrics.

Recognizing Employee’s hard work in Public

Publicly recognizing employees’ achievements and contributions in front of their peers or the entire company can be a powerful way to boost morale and show appreciation. Some examples of public recognition could include announcing an employee’s achievements at a company meeting, featuring the employee in a company newsletter or social media post, or giving the employee a special award or certificate of recognition.

These gestures can go a long way in boosting employee morale and fostering a positive workplace culture. However, it’s important to note that employee appreciation should not be limited to just one day a year. Employers should strive to create a workplace culture that values and recognizes employees’ contributions regularly.
